【1st Submission】Proposal

Name of Artwork:
Facebox

Idea:
People nowadays loves to get the most efficient way to do anything, including communicate with others. The traditional way like writing letters, taking tapes and share with friends are already outdated. Facebox mixed with the new concept of  "status" and the old storage device "tape" and the map, I hope it can lead reflection of their relationship.

Design:
Facebox looks like a tape, both side of the carton box will be replaced by transparent plastic screen; inside is a roll of paper, visitors can write their status or doodle anything on the paper. The paper roll can be rolled with the handler so they can see others' status. Every steps of interacting with the artwork requires moving their arms but not only fingers, I hope visitors can use their action to share their feelings but not just typing through the smart phone keyboards. There will be emoji chops provided as people nowadays seems cannot express themselves without emoji emotion icons and these will make them feel familiar with their life.

Referring to Hugh Davies's Analogue Art Map, I also want to record where the visitors live just like we can see this information on Facebook, the map will be drawn around the box. Visitors can use the pins to pin their homes in Hong Kong, or maybe I will change to a World Map later. A map on paper is replacing by some mobile map application like Google Map but a paper map can keep the landforms of the specific place at a specific time, that's why paper map is valuable for us to collect.

Hugh Davies
Analogue Art Map
2011
Since 2001 Analogue Art Map has employed non digital media to address issues of digital technologies particularly within the realm of creativity. Through architectural interaction, mapping social networks and psycho cartography, the group seeks to both record and generate connections between creative individuals and the spaces in which they live. Analogue Art Map strives to continue its ground breaking work using only obsolete technology.
